BUZZARDS BAY, Mass., April 29, 2006 - Springfield College senior attacker Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) scored six goals and assisted on two other scores for a total of eight offensive points as the Pride won its sixth-straight game and ninth of its past 10 by beating Mass. Maritime, 13-5, this afternoon in Pilgrim Lacrosse League play.
Brown, who now has a team-best 40 goals on the season, started the contest by netting the game's first three scores to put the Pride up early. The Buccaneers (6-7, 2-6 Pilgrim) responded by scoring two goals in the first half as SC clung to its 3-2 lead after two quarters.
The second half was a different story, however, as the Pride coasted to its sixth consecutive win by outscoring Mass. Maritime, 7-1, in the third quarter to take a 10-3 lead into the fourth and final quarter. SC scored three goals in the final 15 minutes to the Buccaneers' two for the 13-5 victory. With the win, the Pride improves to 11-4 overall and 7-1 in Pilgrim League action.
Sophomore midfielder Steve Krasco (Medford, Mass.) scored three goals and totaled three assists for six points in the victory, as freshman attacker Jake Beebe (Sudbury, Mass.) tallied one goal and two assists. Other scorers on the afternoon for SC included junior attacker Drew Ginsberg (Takoma Park, Md.), freshman attacker Pat Cavanaugh (Wayland, Mass.), and sophomore midfielder Chris Sharpe (Derry, N.H.) with one goal apiece.
With this afternoon's match-up being the last regular-season tilt for the Pride, SC will next compete in the 2006 Pilgrim Lacrosse League Tournament as the second seed. The Pride will host a Pilgrim League semifinal game on Wednesday afternoon, May 3rd, in a 4:00 p.m. start against No. 3 Wheaton College at Benedum Field. SC beat Wheaton at home earlier this season (Apr. 8) by a final score of 19-9.
