SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 24, 2006 – Springfield College senior forward Courtney Parvin (Brackney, Pa.) scored a game-high 15 points to go along with seven rebounds, three assists and two steals as the Pride won its seventh consecutive New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) contest this evening over Smith College, 71-36, in Blake Arena.
SC opened on a 13-2 run to start the affair, capped by a lay-up from sophomore guard Tara McCarthy (Bristol, R.I.) with 14:45 to go in the opening half, and never looked back. McCarthy chipped in with 14 points on 6-of-12 shooting from the floor for the Pride.
Freshman center Lauren O’Connor (Valhalla, N.Y.) recorded her second-straight double-digit rebounding effort, collecting a game-best 12 rebounds off the bench for SC. Sophomore guard Christine Cotter (Stoughton, Mass.) connected on three of her five three-point field goal attempts, scoring 13 in the game to help pace the Pride.
Smith College, which falls to 5-11 overall and 0-6 in NEWMAC play, was led by freshman guard Rose Baldwin with 11 points off the bench. Senior forward Shelley Harrison added seven rebounds and five blocks for the Pioneers.
SC improves to 13-5 overall and a perfect 7-0 in conference play, as the Pride has won seven of its past eight contests. SC will next host Coast Guard on Saturday afternoon, January 28, in a 1:00 p.m. tip-off.
