SPRINGFIELD, Mass., January 22, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore Kerry McGowan (East Lyme, Conn.) captured the balance beam (9.025) and tied for first in the floor exercise (9.250) as the Pride defeated SUNY Brockport, 176.950-174.100, Sunday afternoon at Blake Arena.

With the win, SC improves to 2-2, and the loss drops SUNY Brockport to 0-2 this season.

The Pride won each of the four events on the way to its victory this afternoon. In the vault, the Pride scored 46.025 to Brockport’s 45.675. In the bars, it was SC, 44.150-42.900. The balance beam saw SC victorious, 41.950-41.025, and SC won the floor exercise, 44.825-44.500.

Pride freshman Penelope Bohunko (Wilkes Barre, Pa.) won the vault with the score of 9.400, and fellow freshman Kristin Fairburn (Salem, Mass.) was victorious in the uneven parallel bars (9.350).

SUNY Brockport junior Sarah Bulka won the all-around event scoring a 35.975, and SUNY senior Michelle Farrelley came in second with a 35.650.
