NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass., September 16, 2006 - Springfield College junior co-captain Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) finished seventh overall out of 230 total runners to lead the Pride to a 12th-place finish out of 33 competing teams at this afternoon's UMass Dartmouth "Shriners" Cross Country Invitational.
Brigham covered the 5k course in an impressive time of 18:44, as she averaged just 6:02 per mile to finish in the top 10 individually. SC captured 12th place with a team point total of 345. Amherst College won the team title with 32 points, as Colby College finished second at 65, Tufts University came in third with 119, Brandeis University ended up fourth with 153, and Coast Guard rounded out the top five with 162 team points.
Junior co-captain Jess Borsotti (Westfield, Mass.) was the next one in for the Pride after Brigham, finishing 37th overall with a time of 19:40, good for an average mile of 6:20. Sophomore Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) finished third for SC and 89th in the race with a time of 21:01. Dalidowitz recorded an average pace of 6:46 per mile.
Coming in next for the Pride was freshman Catherine Croce (Walkill, N.Y.). The first-year finished 108th overall out of the 230 runners in a time of 22:01, averaging 7:05 per mile. Senior Maureen Ashe (Springfield, Mass.) rounded out the top five for SC with a 128th-place finish overall. Ashe completed the 5k course in a time of 22:30, as she averaged a time of 7:15 per mile.
The Pride will next compete at the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon, September 23rd, in a meet hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
