Men's Cross Country Places Ninth of 29 Teams at the UMass Dartmouth "Shriners" Invitational

NORTH DARTMOUTH, Mass., September 16, 2006 - Springfield College sophomore T.J. Potenza (Cranston, R.I.) finished 45th overall out of 155 total runners as the Pride came in ninth place as a team out of 29 participating squads at this afternoon's UMass Dartmouth "Shriners" Cross Country Invitational.

Potenza paced the Pride by finishing the five-mile course in a time of 27:05, as he averaged a time of 5:25 per mile. SC compiled a team total of 271 points to finish ninth overall. Trinity College won the men's team title with 62 total points, followed by Brandeis University with 71 points, Stonehill College with 125, Amherst College at 134, and Tufts University rounding out the top five with 138.

Sophomore Mike Griffin (Scarborough, Maine) was the second runner in for the Pride as he finished 51st overall with a time of 27:15. Griffin's mile pace was marked at an impressive 5:27. Coming in right behind Griffin was senior Patrick Gann (Guilford, Conn.), as the tri-captain finished 57th overall with a time of 27:25, good for an average pace of 5:29 per mile.

Senior Nate McMahan (Millis, Mass.) was the fourth runner in for SC on the day, averaging a mile time of 5:32 while finishing the race in 27:39, good for a 68th-place finish. Freshman Michael DeCrescenzo (New Milford, Conn.) finished in the exact same time as McMahan, as he was registered as finishing in 69th place with an identical time of 27:39.

The Pride will next compete at the Purple Valley Classic on Saturday afternoon, September 23rd, in a meet hosted by Williams College in Williamstown, Mass.
