WEST POINT, N.Y., January 28, 2006 - Springfield College senior Andrew Malaby (West Warwick, R.I.) recorded the Pride's best finish at Army's West Point Open this weekend, placing 10th in the rings with a final score of 8.400, as SC finished fifth out of seven competing teams.
The 16th-ranked Pride compiled a team total of 182.70 points to capture fifth place in the Division I-heavy West Point Open. No. 7 Penn State won the Open with a total of 206.80, as No. 13 Army finished second with 199.50 team points. No. 15 Temple scored 197.05 points to finish third, and No. 10 Navy rounded out the top four with a team score of 196.55.
MIT finished sixth of seven with 172.65 total points, and No. 19 James Madison came in seventh (171.05).
In the team competition on Friday evening (Jan. 27), SC sophomore John Ferreira (Naugatuck, Conn.) scored an 8.500 on the floor exercise to tie Malaby for the team-lead in that event. Malaby also scored a team-best 8.350 on the vault.
SC will return to action as it hosts MIT and Vermont in a tri-meet on Sunday afternoon, February 12, in a 1:00 p.m. start.
