WEST POINT, N.Y., January 28, 2006 - The Springfield College women’s track and field team had a number of strong performances at the non-scoring Army Open in West Point, N.Y., on Saturday, January 28th. The meet featured competition from Division I, II, and III.
One highlight of the meet was the Pride women sweeping first through third place in the 60-meter dash. Freshman Silvienne Krosendijk (Seroe Biento, Aruba) finished first (8.13 seconds) and was followed by senior Yasmin Goris (Worcester, Mass.) in 8.15 seconds, and freshman Vanessa Ricketts (Greenfield, Mass.), who crossed the line in 8.18 seconds.
SC junior transfer Jen McBride (Mechanicville, N.Y.) finished first in the 400-meter dash with a time of 1:00.79, as she was followed by senior Alisha Miner (Sanbornton, N.H.), who finished third with a time of 1:02.33.
In the 1000-meter run, freshman Lara Dalidowitz (Southington, Conn.) finished with a time of 3:25.42, which was good enough for third place. SC senior Jess Zaccaro (Washingtonville, N.Y.) came in fourth in the 500-meter dash (1:24.4), and sophomore Kristyn Meade (Raynham, Mass.) finished closely behind, in fifth place (1:25.14). Sophomore Alyssa Brigham (Penacook, N.H.) continued to perform well in the mile, finishing in fourth with a time of 5:26.95.
In the throwing events, freshman Kelsey Bishop (Warwick, R.I.) finished in third place in the weight throw with a toss of 12.93 meters, while junior Rachel DiSaia (Waterford, Conn.) was the first Division III finisher in the shot put, finishing fourth with a throw of 10.73 meters.
The jumping events featured Krosendijk’s win in the triple jump, with a leap of 10.43 meters. Krosendijk also took second in the long jump, with a jump of 5.33 meters, where she was followed by Ricketts in third place, who leapt to a mark of 5.22 meters. Dalidowitz took second in the high jump with a leap of 1.52 meters, and freshman Kayla Robertson (Peace Dale, R.I.) finished in a three-way tie for third with a jump of 1.47 meters.
The Pride will next compete on Saturday, February 4th, at Tufts University in Medford, Mass.
