Kelly Slattery Box Score

Springfield, Mass. - November 30, 2011 - Despite a late second-half push, the Springfield College women's basketball team dropped its New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) opener to Clark University, 63-57, on Wednesday evening in Blake Arena. Clark's Kate Minister led the Cougars with a game-high 23 points. Colleen Dignum and Kelly Slattery topped the Pride with 13 points each.

With the win, Clark improves to 3-2, 1-0 in league action, while the Pride drops to 2-3, 0-1 in the NEWMAC.

Minister is a 6-2 senior forward from Manchester, England. She went 9-for-12 from the floor, including 4-for-6 from 3-point range. She also had a team-high 10 rebounds. Sophomore guard Ashleigh Condon (Hull, Mass.) recorded 14 points and added five assists. Sophomore guard Emily Reilly (Marlborough, Mass.) had 10 points and nine rebounds for the Cougars.

Besides Dignum's and Slattery's 13 points, Jaimie Bickelhaupt (Brookfield, Conn.) was the only other player for Springfield in double figures with 10 points. Bickelhaupt also had a team-high 10 rebounds.

Springfield owned its largest lead of the opening half of play at the 11:30 mark after a pair of Bickelhaupt free-throws gave the hosts a 16-11 advantage. Five quick points from Minister, including a deep three, evened things at 16 with 9:07 on the clock. The teams would go on to trade buckets until they were tied for the sixth time in the half, this time at 22-all -- after an inside bucket by Slattery with 4:20 left in the half. Clark would hold the Pride off the scoreboard the rest of the half as it rattled off seven points in a row en route to a 29-22 halftime advantage.

SC then scored the first five points of the second half, cutting the margin to two, 29-27. Clark would up the margin to as many as 11 points three times, the last at 56-45 with 5:21 remaining.

But SC would cut it to two again with 17 seconds left on two free throws by Bickelhaupt, 59-57. Condon would then close out the scoring on four free throws made -- two with 16 seconds left, and two more with two seconds left.

The Pride will continue league play on Saturday afternoon when it hosts Wellesley at 1:00 pm.
