Curtis Repeats as New England Division III Pentathlon Champion

Northampton, Mass. - February 17, 2012 - For the second-straight year, Kelly Curtis won the pentathlon at the New England Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships hosted by Smith College on Friday evening.

Curtis finished in second place in two of the five events, third in one event, and in a tie for first in one event. She ran a 9.39 in the 60 meter hurdles to finish just .06 out of the top spot to earn 830 second place points. In the high jump, Curtis flew to a height of 1.57 meters to tie for first with three other competitors. The four top finishers split the points from first through fourth place, each garnering 701 for the competition. In the long jump, Curtis gathered another second place finish. Her leap of 5.11 meters was good enough to earn 589 points for the event.

Curtis clocked in at 2:51.14 in the 800 meters, which was 17th overall, as she earned 452 points for her finish. She would seal the victory in the pentathlon’s final event, the shot put, with a toss of 11.66 meters was good for third place in the event.

Kelly’s 3,211 total points move her to seventh on the national list for Division III competitors.
