O'Connell and Niemiec Compete at All-New England Championship

Alex Niemiec and Ryan O'Connell Boston, Mass. - March 1, 2014 - Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) and Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) represented the Springfield College men's track & field team on Friday and Saturday at the All-New England Championship.

On Friday, Niemiec competed in the 60 meter dash preliminaries, finishing third with a time of 7.02 in a field of 29 runners. The first-year also competed in the long jump, finishing 8th with a leap of 22-00.25.

On Saturday, O'Connell raced in the 3000 meter run, placing fourth out of 28 runners with a time of 8:24.61.

Ken Klatka Ken Klatka, an associate professor of physical education at Springfield College, will enter his 38th season as head coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for an impressive .743 winning percentage.
