Brunswick, Maine - January 28, 2012 - The Springfield College men's track and field team finished second among five teams on Saturday afternoon as it totaled 99 points.
Host Bowdoin ran away with the competition with 218.5 points, while Tufts tallied 98 points to finish one point behind Springfield. RPI (88.5) and Colby (52) rounded out the day's scoring.
Springfield had a terrific showing in the 3,000 meters, with Brian Fuller producing a winning time of 8:30.62, while teammate Zach Pietras took fourth in 8:51.72. Kevin Coyle continued to dominate the jumping events, winning the long jump with a distance of 23-11.50 and the triple jump with a mark of 48-03.50. In the long jump, Dylan Brock placed fourth with a 22-00.75, while in the triple jump Jessie Charette was also fourth after jumping 43-00.25.
Orlando Harvey was impressive in the shot, taking second with a toss of 46-08.25, closely followed by Mason Durant's third-place mark of 45-04.50. John Dayton was also a runner-up in the weight toss after recording a distance of 47-04.25.
Brock also ran to a fifth-place finish in the 60 meters in 7.37. Michael Johnson crossed the finish line in the 200 in 23.69 to finish as the event's runner-up.
In the 400, Walker Smith placed fifth in 53.41, while Ryan O'Connell scored third-place points in the 1,000 meters with a time of 2:33.10
Matt Peabody placed fourth in the 5,000 with a 16:03.32, and in the 60 meter hurdles, Sam Weiss took fifth in 9.12. In addition, Bill Ferguson recorded a leap of 5-11.25 to finish fourth in the high jump.
