Powerful Temple Defeats Men's Gymnastics, 345.600 - 331.550

Matt Bolognese Springfield, Mass. -- February 20, 2009 -- -- Despite the host school's best overall team score of the year, the Temple University men's gymnastics team defeated Springfield College this evening by a score of 345.600 to 331.550 at SC's Blake Arena. Temple's Adam Al-Rokh won the All-Around with a score of 84.800, while Springfield freshman Ty Evans was not far behind in second with a mark of 84.100. Matt Bolognese (see photo) placed sixth for the Pride in the still rings.

Al-Rokh, a sophomore from Bensalem, Pa., had a great meet. Besides finishing first in the All-Around, he also finished first in the pommel horse (14.450) and rings (14.750). He also took a second in the parallel bars (14.150), and a fifth in the high bar (13.700).

Evans, a freshman from San Jose, Calif., not only finished second in the All-Around for Springfield, he captured the high bar (14.350), finished second in the vault (15.750), fourth in the floor exercise (14.300), and fourth in the parallel bars (14.000).

Evans's victory in the high bar was the only one for Springfield in the six events. Other winners for Temple included sophomore Tyler Croteau (East Swanzey, N.H.) in the floor exercise with a 15.000, sophomore Scott Blomfield (Wallingford, Conn.) in the vault with a 15.800, and freshman Matt Martin (Bow, N.H.) in the parallel bars with a 14.550.
