Springfield, Mass. - -January, 31, 2014-- Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) and PJ Andrews (Lincoln, R.I.) proved to be Springfield’s top performers at the track and field meet held this afternoon at the Springfield College Field House. The Pride placed sixth of ten squads.
The final team scoring was a follows – Worcester State 130.50, American International 105, Williams 89.50, Amherst 83, UMASS Dartmouth 82, Springfield 75, Eastern Connecticut 49, Trinity 37, Wheaton 14, Mount Saint Mary 10.
Niemiec and Andrews had Springfield’s only individual wins on the day. Niemiec was victorious in the 60 meter dash with a time of 7.02. In the weight throw, Andrews took first with a heave of 15.04 meters (49-4.25).
The Pride also secured a victory in the 4x200 relay with the team of Ryan Gower (Barrington, R.I.), Ken Toal (Newtown, Conn.), Derek Jackson (Warwick, R.I.), and Niemiec with a combined time of 1:32.38.
In the pole vault, Andrew Aronne (Wethersfield, Conn.) placed third at a mark of 3.55 meters (11-7.75). Sam Baker (Durham, Conn.) also placed third the Pride in the high jump with a height of 1.88 meters (6-2).
Ryan O’Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) placed fourth in the 1000 meter run crossing the finish line at 2:34.35.
