Women's Basketball Drops 72-57 Decision At Colby-Sawyer

Corey Finch Box Score

New London, N.H. - November 19, 2008 - Despite receiving a pair of double-doubles from Corey Finch and Lauren O'Connor, the Springfield College women's basketball team dropped its first game of the season at Colby-Sawyer, 72-57, on Wednesday evening.

With the loss, the Pride now drop to 1-1 on the season, while Colby-Sawyer improves to 2-0.

Leading the way for the second-straight game was Finch, as she netted a team-best 18 points to go along with 12 rebounds. O'Connor added 13 points and 13 rebounds as well for Springfield. Rachelle Walker was the only other member of the team to score in double digits as she recorded 10 points in the loss.

Springfield struggled from the field as it shot just over 33% on the evening, quite unlike the Chargers, who registered a 52.9 field goal percentage as a team in the victory. Kelly Murphy added seven points and five assists for Springfield, while Megan Cavanaugh added seven points and a pair of steals.

After a Walker triple just under four minutes into the game gave the Pride a 9-6 lead, Colby-Sawyer would not trail the rest of the game. Extending it's lead to as much as 18 in the contest, the Chargers were fueled by Emma Pasquale's 18 points and 15 rebounds in the victory. Terri Duffy added 16 points for the home squad as well.

The Chargers offense got off to a hot start behind the three-point shooting of Kali Coleman. She connected on two early treys giving Colby-Sawyer an early 20-9 lead. The Chargers increased their lead at 37-21 after Coleman connected on her fourth three-pointer of the half. Colby-Sawyer headed to the locker room with a 44-31 lead at the half after shooting 70% from three-point land and 59% from the floor. Springfield was able to keep the game within reach behind 16 first-half points from Finch.

In the second half, the Pride cut the lead to nine early in the second half at 51-42. O'Connor made her impact as she made 5-7 free throws and hit 3-5 shots from the field in the second half to keep Springfield in the game.

Springfield outrebounded Colby-Sawyer 36-34, but the Chargers held a 30-20 advantage on points in the paint.

Springfield will now prepare for the Williams Invitational this weekend, in which the Pride will take on Fitchburg State on Saturday and Middlebury on Sunday.
