Headley Powers Men's Track and Field To Fourth-Place Finish at Division III New England's

Medford, Mass. - May 1, 2010 - Steve Headley won the 100, 200, and anchored the winning 4x100 team to lead the Springfield College men's track and field team to a fourth-place finish at the 2010 New England Division III Championships hosted at Tufts University.

As a team, Springfield scored 55 points to finish in fourth place. Williams was crowned the New England Division III Champion after totaling 159 points, just edging out MIT's 154 points. Bates finished third with 66 points, followed by Springfield.

Headley was tremendous in the meet as he ran a 10.48 to win the 100 and crossed the finish line in the 200 with the fastest time in the country to date with a 21.10. He then joined teammates Tom Brognano, Nickel Hay, and Matt Amendola to win the 4x100 in 41.68.

In the long jump, Kevin Coyle recorded a leap of 7.00m (22-11.75) to earn second-place honors, before taking seventh in the triple jump with a mark of 13.49m (44-03.25).

Teammates Zach Pietras placed sixth in the 3,000 meter steeplechase with a time of 9:39.86, Chris Quetant took sixth in the 400 in 49.65, as did Amendola in the 100 in 11.03.

The 4x800 relay team of Stephen Creamer, Ryan O'Connell, James Dang, and Steven Gilfeather also finished in sixth in 8:01.48. Kevin Behlmer also scored points for the Pride with an eighth-place finish in the 400 hurdles after crossing the finish line in 56.58. Greg Colemancompeted in the decathlon and took seventh after scoring 5627 points.

As a result, each of these student athletes who placed in top eight earn All-New England Division III honors.
