Army Edges Men's Gymnastics by 1.2 Points

Alex McCabe Springfield, Mass. -- March 9, 2012 -- The U.S. Military Academy men's gymnastics team defeated Springfield College by a very close score, 331.200 to 330.000, tonight at SC's Blake Arena. Just six days ago at West Point, the difference between these two teams was 11 points. This evening it was 1.2.

Army freshman Alex Ganz of Danville, Calif. was the only gymnast to complete the all-around in the meet. He finished with a score of 81.200.

Springfield had three winners -- senior Ty Evans (San Jose, Calif.) in the vault, junior Jimmy Pezzino (Buffalo, N.Y.) in the floor exercise, and sophomore Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) in the still rings.

Army matched that with three winners -- senior Chase Brown (Baton Rouge, La.) in the high bar, junior Nicholas Fettinger (Hemlock, Mich.) in the parallel bars, and junior Garrek Hojan-Clark (Brookfield, Wisc.) in the pommel horse.
