Men's Track & Field Competes at ECAC Division III Championship
Boston, Mass. - March 8, 2014 -
The Springfield College men's track & field team competed on Saturday in the 2014 Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Indoor Track and Field Championships at the Reggie Lewis Track and Athletic Center at Boston University.
Ryan O'Connell (Middleboro, Mass.) was the Pride's top finisher in the championship meet, placing fifth overall in the 3000-meter run. O'Connell finished in 8:36.44 to take fifth in a field of 26 runners.
Alex Niemiec (Chicopee, Mass.) took 14th in the high jump (6-4) and the 4x200 relay team of Ryan Gower (Barrington, R.I.), Jacob Buhelt (Falmouth, Maine), Ken Toal (Newtown, Conn.) and Brian Stacy (Belchertown, Mass.) combined for a time of 1:32.52, good for 25th overall. Sam Baker (Durham, Conn.) also competed in the high jump, tying his personal-best of 6-4, placing 16th overall.
Springfield finished 51st overall out of 62 teams with four points. Bates won the championship with 47 points, Widener (42) finished second, Worcester State and Oneonta tied for third with 41 points, while Moravian (36.50) rounded out the top five.

coach, and 44th as a coach overall, of the men’s track and field program in 2013-2014. He ranks
among the nation’s most successful coaches, with an
overall record of 447 wins, 156 losses, and two ties for
an impressive .743 winning percentage. In 2011, Klatka was inducted into the Springfield College Athletic Hall of Fame.
