Women's Volleyball Wins NEWMAC Regular Season Title After Sweep At Wheaton
Norton, Mass. - October 29, 2011
- The Springfield College women's volleyball team locked up the top-seed in the upcoming conference tournament after it swept Wheaton College on Saturday in New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) action. The Pride won by the scores of 25-17, 25-15, 25-16.
The Pride, which was once again ranked 20th in the country in this week's AVCA National Poll, improves to 29-2 with the win. Springfield concluded league play with an 8-1 record.
For the second-straight season, Springfield will serve as host for the NEWMAC Championship Semifinals and Finals on November 5-6.
Lauren Torvi tallied eight kills and six blocks in the win, while classmate Kim Giaquinto posted four kills, three blocks, and three aces.
Wheaton College's Emily Davisson registered 23 digs in the loss, while Christina Cannon tallied a team-high seven kills for the Lyons (4-27, 0-8 NEWMAC).

Moira Long will enter her third season as head women's volleyball coach in the fall of 2013. Long has wasted little time putting her stamp on the program, taking the Pride to consecutive trips to the NCAA Championships, including the Elite Eight in 2011.
