Springfield, Mass. - November 6, 2010 - The Springfield College women’s swimming and diving team dropped a close matchup with University of Rhode Island at Art Linkletter Natatorium on Saturday afternoon as the visitors outscored the Pride, 157-143.
Springfield got an early victory by Meghan Sisson as she took the 1000 yard freestyle in 11:05.11. Kellie Pennington posted another victory for the hosts as she claimed victory in the 50 yard freestyle for her first of three wins on the day. Pennington improved on her winning time from last week by more than a full second, finishing in 24.30. She would also go on to win the 100 freestyle in 53.48 and the 100 yard butterfly in 59.14, giving her four wins through her first two collegiate meets.
In the diving well, Springfield’s Courtney Keefe got her first event win of the year with a score of 234.29 in the one-meter. Keefe would go on to place third in the three-meter event, which was won by her teammate Kyra Breitweiser with a 253.42, giving the Pride women the sweep in both diving events.
The Pride head to Northampton, Mass. next Saturday at 1:00 pm for a dual meet with rival Smith College.
