Women's Soccer Blanks No. 18 Brandeis, 2-0

Springfield, Mass. - September 10, 2011 - Katie Mantie continued her hot offensive start to the season with the eventual game-winning goal and Jackie Moscardelli added a goal and an assist as the Springfield College women’s soccer team bested No. 18 Brandeis by a score of 2-0 Saturday afternoon at Brock-Affleck Field.

Springfield improves to 3-1 on the season while the Judges fall to 2-1 overall.

The Pride dominated the nationally-ranked visitors throughout the first half but went into the break up just one goal. Mantie scored in the 26th minute on an assist from her co-captain Moscardelli, lifting the ball over Brandeis goalie Francine Kofinas and into the net.

The Pride added a second goal in the 59th minute when Moscardelli headed in a cross by Jenelle Jahoda to bring the score to 2-0.

Erin Greenstein recorded her third shutout victory of the season, notching five saves. Kofinas recorded three saves in the first half before being replaced by Michelle Savuto in the second half. Savuto gave up Moscardelli’s goal but did not tally a save.

Springfield owned a 12-11 edge in shots for the game, while Brandeis took nine corner kicks to the Pride's seven.

Springfield will visit Coast Guard next Saturday afternoon at 3:00 pm.
