New Haven, Conn. - May 14, 2011 - The Springfield College men's track and field team finished 10th at the New England Outdoor Track and Field Championships on the campus of Southern Connecticut State University this weekend. In a field comprised of Division I, II, and III institutions, Springfield was the second-highest placing Division III school.
The team results were as follows. The winner was host Southern Connecticut State with 110 points. The Owls were followed by Northeastern with 86.50 points, URI (82), UMass-Lowell (77), Bates (44), Stonehill (43), Boston College (40.5), Vermont (38), New Hampshire (34), and Springfield (24). There were 37 scoring teams at the All-New England's.
Senior Nickel Hay had a huge hand in Springfield's point total. The Norwalk, Conn. native finished second in the 200 meter dash, running a time of 22.11 seconds. Teammate Chris Quetant also excelled in the 200 with a fifth-place time of 22.37.
Hay placed fifth in the 400 meter dash with a time of 48.72 seconds. His 200 and 400 finishes combined for 12 team points individually.
He also figured in the 4x100 meter relay, which placed third with a time of 42.26 seconds. Running in that event were Tom Brognano, Hay, Kyle Brown, and Jermain Bell.
Also scoring team points was Ryan Ux in the javelin. He placed seventh with a toss of 190-feet, 5-inches or 58.03 meters. And Chris Quetant also scored four team points in the 200 meter dash. Chris placed fifth with a time of 22.37.
In other events, Dylan Brock finished 17th in the long jump with a leap of 21-feet, 6 1/4-inches; Orlando Harvey finished 18th in the shot put with a toss of 45-feet, 8 1/2-inches or 13.93 meters; and Matt Peabody took 25th in the 10,000 meters with a time of 35:13.10.
