Softball Drops A Pair of Contests in Second Day of Rebel Games

Bryn Worrilow Kissimmee, Fla. - March 15, 2010 - The Springfield College softball team dropped a pair of contests on the second day of the Rebel Games on Monday afternoon. Montclair State rallied in the first game to clip the Pride, 8-7, while Springfield was bested by Millikin University from Illinois, 9-5, in game #2.

With the two losses, Springfield now stands at 1-3 during its Spring Break trip to Florida.

In its opening loss to the Red Hawks of Montclair State, the Pride battled back, despite falling behind 5-1 after the first inning. Montclair went on to hold a 7-4 lead heading into the seventh inning, however, Springfield erupted for a three-run, two-out rally to knot the game at seven.

After back-to-back fly outs, the Pride was down to its final out of the afternoon with All-American Michelle Wlosek at the plate. Wlosek doubled to right center and then advanced to third on a passed ball. Bryn Worrilow then plated Wlosek with a double of her own to right center. Amanda Novak then singled to right, driving in Worrilow, with Novak advancing to second on the throw. Liz Milly then completed Springfield's comeback as she lashed a double to center, allowing Novak to cross the plate.

In the bottom of seventh, Montclair State's Shannon Mozek led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch. Springfield then walked Tori Ferrante and Heather Bergman to load the bases with no one out. Springfield got the next two outs on a strikeout and force out at home, but Megan Durkin ended the game as she singled in the infield scoring Ferrante with the game-winning run.

Megan Fitzgerald and Katie Anderson each tossed three innings, with Fitzgerald giving up six earned runs and Anderson allowing two earned runs. Stef Grande shouldered the loss as she entered the seventh after the Mozek single and gave up the winning run.

In the loss to Millikin, Grande went 6.1 innings, allowing nine runs, eight of which were earned, while striking out three. Leading the way for the Pride at the plate was Chelsea Bender and Mackenzie O'Dea, who each knocked in a pair of runs in the loss. Wlosek also tacked on an RBI for the Pride. SC once again struggled in the field as it committed five errors against Millikin.
