West Point, N.Y. - January 28, 2011 - Despite Ty Evans winning the all-around competition, the Springfield College men's gymnastics team dropped a 330.900-327.500 decision to rival Army on Friday evening.
Both teams recorded their highest point totals of the season in the meet.
Evans finished the evening with an all-around total of 82.800, winning by a full two points. His total score was bolstered by a winning performance on the parallel bars, in which he scored a 14.400. He also finished fourth on the rings (13.900) and the pommel horse (13.600).
Jimmy Pezzino also had a standout evening as he won the floor exercise with a mark of 14.300 and placed second on the vault after scoring a 15.300.
On the pommel horse, Rich Ruggiero's score of 13.800 was good enough for second place. Freshman Ryan Ponce continued to impress this season as he took second on the rings with a 14.500. He also placed fourth on the parallel bars (13.300).
Also having success on the night was Joe Carlson, who took third on the pommel horse (13.700), and Roger Moulton, who took fourth on the vault (14.900).
The Pride will return to action on February 12 when it travels to square off against Penn State.
