Troy, N.Y. - February 28, 2014 - Springfield College senior Jen Thompson (Cheshire, Conn.) finished third overall on the three-meter board on Friday night at the NCAA Northeast-North Division III Diving Regional in Robison Pool at RPI.
The 23-diver field competed for the right to dive at the NCAA National Championship Meet in Indianapolis from March 19th to March 22nd.
Williams College senior Mckenzie Murdoch (Winnetka, IL / New Trier) won the event and qualified for Nationals with a score of 518.05. She led after eight different rounds, though needed her final dive to re-take the lead. Kaitlyn Linsmayer (Denver, CO / Denver East), a senior from Amherst College, was second with 512.80 points while Thompson was third with 504.50 points.
Thompson held the lead after each of the first two dives before Murdoch held first following the next seven. Linsmayer was in front after the 10th dives, but Murdoch came back for the victory.
Springfield College senior Kyra Breitweiser (Westwood, N.J.) also dove on Friday, finishing 14th overall with a score of 407.55. Melanie Avdoulos (East Longmeadow, Mass.) scored 383.60 for 21st overall.
Springfield will compete again on Saturday in the one-meter dive beginning at 1:00 p.m.
