San Antonio, Texas - October 19, 2013 - The Springfield College women's volleyball team was swept by a pair of nationally-ranked foes at the Trinity Fall Classic on Saturday morning. The Pride lost to No. 21 Trinity, 25-14, 25-21, 25-23 before falling to 12th-ranked Eastern by the scores of 25-15, 25-23, 25-21.

Springfield now stands at 18-5 on the season. The Pride's offense struggled throughout the day and finished with two of its lowest hitting percentages of the season. Springfield, which entered the weekend with the nation's second-best hitting percentage (.297), was limited to just .139 against Trinity and .185 versus Eastern.

Leading the Pride against host Trinity was Daniella Crismani (San Francisco, Calif.), who tallied a team-best 10 kills and 10 digs while posting a .304 hitting percentage. Tessa Smolinski (Hebron, Conn.) registered seven digs and six kills, and Meghan Kinee (Williamstown, N.J.) was credited with 10 digs.

After a rough opening set, the Pride hung tough with Trinity in the second and evened things at 21-all on a Lauren Holt (Granby, Conn.) kill. However, the hosts scored the final four points to take a two-set lead. In the third set, Smolinski ripped a kill to knot the set at 23-all, only to have Trinity produce back-to-back kills for the win.

Smolinski had a strong outing in the Eastern match, recording 14 kills at a .351 clip to go along with 11 digs to pace Springfield's attack. Kelsey McGayhey (Shelter Island, N.Y.) pounded nine kills on a .533 percentage and Kinee totaled 11 digs of her own.

The Pride once again struggled out of the gate, but hit its stride in the second and owned a 19-16 lead following a Crismani kill. Eastern battled back to tie the set at 23 and used two-straight kills to earn the comeback win. The Eagles were in control for much of the third, with Springfield getting within 22-20, only to have Eastern score three of the final four points for the sweep.

For her efforts throughout the weekend, Holt was named to the All-Tournament Team.

After playing some great out-of-region competition, Springfield will gear up for some critical in-region matches next week, starting off with a home match versus WPI on Wednesday at 7:00 pm in Dana Gymnasium.
