Softball Splits a Pair of Contests With St. Benedict and St. Norbert

Amanda Novak Kissimmee, Fla. - March 14, 2011 - The Springfield College softball team split a pair of games on Monday afternoon in the Rebel Spring Games. The Pride fell in its first game of the day to St. Benedict, 5-2, before edging past St. Norbert, 4-3.

With the split, the Pride are now 2-2 this season.

In the victory over St. Norbert, Ashley Marino earned the win as she scattered five hits in seven innings of work, giving up three earned runs while fanning five. She is now 2-0.

Kelly Blake connected on a pair of hits, while Kasey Kelly, Breann Joyce, and Amanda Novak all contributed a run batted in.

Springfield fell behind 2-0 after the top-half of the third as the Green Knights strung together three hits in the frame. The Pride answered back with a run in the bottom half after Liz Milly scored from second on one of the Green Knight's four errors on the day.

The Pride evened the game at two in the fourth after Kelsey Dunn crossed the plate on a Blake groundout, only to have St. Norbert even the game in the fifth on a Steph Brunette home run.

Blake led off the fifth with a single and would eventually score on a Joyce single, and Novak's sac-fly to right field in the sixth plated Ally Rivelli as Springfield held on for the 4-3 win.
