Ponce and Zirna Earn All-Conference Honors at ECAC Championship

Pat Hanley Annapolis, Md. - March 29, 2014 - Ryan Ponce (Tolland, Conn.) led the Springfield College men's gymnastics team on Saturday at the 2014 ECAC Championships at Macdonough Hall, earning all-conference honors in two events.

The Pride totaled three all-conference accolades on Saturday, two from Ponce and one from Jon Zirna (Buffalo, N.Y.).

Ponce was the top finisher on the day for Springfield, taking fifth on the still rings (14.650) and sixth on the parallel bar (13.650) to earn all-conference honors in both events. Zirna finished sixth on the pommel horse with a score of 13.900 to also earn the all-conference honor.

Pat Hanley (Abington, Mass.) picked up the honor of the conference's most improved gymnast of the year. He took seventh on the still rings (14.350).

Also competing on the pommel horse was Pat Ryther (Boston, Mass.), who took ninth with a 13.450 while first-year Desmond Carr (Hickory, N.C.) finished eighth on the vault with a score of 13.900.

As a team, the Pride finished fourth on Friday after registering 407.100 points.
