Hilton Head, S.C. - March 19, 2014 - The Springfield College men's tennis team picked up a 6-3 victory over Goucher on Wednesday as Tanner DeVarennes (Lee, Mass.) led the way with wins at both No. 1 singles and No. 1 doubles.
DeVarennes teammed with Joe Giannelli (Watertown, Conn.) for a 8-5 win at the top doubles spot for the Pride, while Justin Danielewicz (Portland, Conn.) and Kyle Beynor (Prospect, Conn.) produced an 8-2 victory at No. 2.
In singles play, both DeVarennes and Danielewicz went three sets before ultimately pulling out victories for Springfield. At the top singles spot, DeVarennes delivered a 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 win, while Danielewicz recovered from dropping the first set 6-3 to take the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
Giannelli was a straight-set winner as he cruised at No. 4 by a 6-0, 6-1 decision. At No. 6, Joshua Robinson (Southold, N.Y.) registered a 7-6, 6-2 win.
Springfield will next play Scranton on Thursday morning in their final match of their Spring Break trip.
