MIT Snaps Williams's 9-Year Streak by Winning the NE Div. III Women's Track & Field Championships

Springfield, Mass. -- May 2, 2009 -- MIT captured its first New England Division III Women's Track & Field Team Championship, and by so doing snapped a lengthy streak of nine straight titles by Williams College today under sunny skies at Springfield College's Blake Track. MIT scored 152.50 points, followed closely by Williams at 143, then Middlebury with 68. Host Springfield finished in a tie for sixth with Tufts with 56 points.

Following Middlebury's third-place total of 68 points came Bowdoin with 62, Wheaton (57), Springfield and Tufts (56), Colby (51), Bates (40.50), Brandeis (25), Trinity (19), Southern Maine (17), Keene State (16), Amherst and Westfield State (14), Smith and Worcester State (13), Conn. College (8), RIC (7), Salem State (6), Bridgewater State (5), Coast Guard, UMass Dartmouth, and WPI (4), Colby-Sawyer (2), and Mount Holyoke (in 26th with 1 point).
