Ithaca, N.Y. – December 7, 2013 - The Springfield College men’s swimming & diving completed day two of the Bomber Invitational hosted by Ithaca College on Saturday.
As a team, the Pride is currently in fifth among the 11 teams competing with 458 points. Cornell is leading the competition with 1,678.5 points, followed by Ithaca (654), SUNY Geneseo (611.5), and Hartwick (583).
Jack Lewis (Durham, N.H.) had the Pride's top finish on the day as he was the runner up on the one-meter board after totaling a national-qualifying score of 513.60. Teammate Pat Smith (Niskayuna, N.Y.) took ninth after registering a 407.65.
Daniel Fay (Yorktown, N.Y.), Michael Normoyle (Springfield, Mass.), Jason Scotto (Southbury, Conn.) and Benjamin Ernst (West Springfield, Mass.) placed fifth in the 400 medley relay. The team finished with a time of 3:37.76.
The 200 free relay team of Normoyle, Scotto, Hayden Cassidy (Ada, Mich.) and Josh Frey (East Hartford, Conn.) finished ninth with a time of 1:29.12. Individually, Scotto also swam to a 10th place finish in the 200 free with a time of 1:47.31.
In the 200 fly, Pat Geraghty (Holyoke, Mass.) was the Pride's top finisher as he clocked in at 1:59.99, while Fay touched in 56.03 for Springfield's best time in the 100 back. Additionally, Normoyle took fourth in the 100 breast with a 58.51.
Springfield concluded the evening with a fifth-place finish in the 800 free relay as Cassidy, John Vatkevich (Wrentham, Mass.), Phillip Murphy (Holyoke, Mass.) and Scotto touched in 7:12.59.
