Softball Lands Five on NEWMAC All-Conference Team; Perrelli, Marino Take Top Honors  Babson Park, Mass. -- May 8, 2012 -- Pitcher Ashley Marino and Head Coach Julie Perrelli of Springfield College received top honors as the New England Women's and Men's Athletic Conference named its softball post-season award-winners yesterday following its conference tournament which concluded over the weekend.

Marino, a sophomore right-hander from Harrison, N.Y., led the Pride to the NEWMAC regular-season title with an overall record of 13-9, and was named NEWMAC Pitcher of the Year. Perrelli, in her third year as head coach at Springfield College, was named NEWMAC Coach of the Year for the first time in her tenure.

In addition, Springfield College landed a league-high total of five athletes on the First and Second Team All-Conference squads.

On the First Team were junior shortstop Kelly Blake (Watertown, Conn.), junior first baseman Breann Joyce (Trumbull, Conn.), as well as Marino.

On the Second Team were senior second baseman Kasey Kelly (Poughkeepsie, N.Y.) and sophomore center-fielder Christina Leader (Yorktown Heights, N.Y.).

Marino finished second in the league in earned run average (1.68), second in strikeouts (107), fourth in innings pitched (125), and first in opposing batting average (.207). She also finished second in wins with 13, and fourth in games started with 20.

Blake finished first in doubles (18), tied for first in stolen bases (13), ninth in batting average (.386), eighth in slugging percentage (.614), tied for eighth in runs scored (33), tied for fourth in hits (54), and tied for sixth in runs batted in (34).

Joyce finished tied for first in home runs (10), fourth in slugging percentage (.695), fifth in runs batted in (39), and tied for second in triples (2).

Kelly finished tied for fourth in runs scored (34), ninth in hits (47), tied for eighth in doubles (12), and tied for second in triples (2).

Leader placed tied for sixth in stolen bases (9), and ninth in at-bats (132).
