Brunswick, Maine -- January 29, 2011 -- The Springfield College men's track & field team travelled to Maine earlier today and came away with victories over Tufts, Bowdoin, and Colby. The final results saw SC score 194 points, followed by Tufts with 156, Bowdoin with 126, and Colby with 69.
Springfield had several individual winners as well as a relay place first on the afternoon. Anthony Salvucci won the 5,000 in 15:47.81, and William Ferguson won the high jump with a leap of 6-02.00.
Kevin Coyle continued to dominate the jumping events as he won both the long jump (23-04.00) and triple jump (45-07.00).
The Pride's 4x400 relay team also claimed first in 3:26.46. That relay was comprised of Kevin Behlmer, Chris Quetant, Sean Nunan, and Nickel Hay. Springfield's 4x800 relay team of Troy French, Stephen Creamer, Zach Pietras, and Ryan O'Connell finished second in a 8:03.57.
Hay also had a strong meet individually as he took second in the 55-meter dash (6.54) and the 200-meter dash (22.63). Kyle Brown also scored well for Springfield in the same events as he took fifth in the 55 (6.85) and fourth in the 200 (23.47). Springfield had a tremendous showing in the 400 with the top three finishers, led by Behlmer's time of 51.37. He was followed by teammates Quetant (51.38) and Fernando Beltran (52.59).
In the 600, Nunan raced to a third-place finish in 1:25.32, while French also placed third in the 1,000 in 2:33.21. Brian Fuller crossed the finish line in 4:17.36 in the mile to earn a second-place finish. In the 55-meter hurdles, Sam Weiss finished as the runner up with a time of 8.53.
In the shot, Michael Cataldo took second with a heave of 44-04.75, while teammate Orlando Harvey placed third with a distance of 43-11.25. Nick Hogan recorded a distance of 45-03.50 in the weight throw to take fourth.
