Greg Switaj Named Preseason All-American In Football
, July 17, 2003 – Springfield College senior place-kicker Greg Switaj
has been selected to the 2003 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Division III Preseason All-America Second Team, announced today.
Switaj, who hails from Ridgewood, N.J., was selected as a D3football.com First-Team All-American last season. He is one of just 17 players in SC football history to earn first-team All-America honors.
One of the most productive place-kickers in the program’s 110-year history, Switaj enters the ’03 season ranked first among SC’s career leaders in points-after touchdown (102), and second in PAT percentage (83.6).
Switaj earned numerous accolades in ’02, including the Freedom Football Conference (FFC) Special Teams Player-of-the-Year Award. He was also chosen to the Football Gazette Division III All-East Region First Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Region All-Star team and the New England Football Writers All-Star First Team. An outstanding student who is majoring in athletic training, Switaj was also an FFC Academic All-Conference choice.
Last season, Switaj drilled 9-of-10 field goal attempts, including a career-long 45-yarder in an 18-15 win over No. 14 Western Connecticut (Oct. 11). He also hit 40-of-44 point-after touchdown attempts and led the Pride in scoring with 67 points. Switaj led the FFC in field goals (0.9, tied for 27th nationally) and finished third in the FFC in scoring (6.7).
The Pride (8-2 overall), which ranked 20th in the final American Football Coaches Association Poll, won its fourth FFC championship in six seasons with a 6-0 conference record in 2002.
