The Owls evened their record at 6-6 while Springfield dropped to 3-8.
Westfield committed six errors in the game, but Green and Vautrin kept Springfield from coming up with the big hits as the Pride stranded 11 baserunners.
Green hurled the first five innings to notch the victory; he allowed three hits and two walks and fanned four. Vautrin recorded the save, allowing four hits, a walk, and an unearned run in four innings.
Westfield snapped a 2-2 tie with a run in the bottom of the fifth when Justin Parr double, stole third and scored on Kevin Lyons’ groundout.
The Owls tallied another run in the seventh and three more runs on four hits in the eighth. Lyons rapped a runscoring single in the eighth for his second RBI.
Westfield junior outfielder Brad King was 3 for 4 with a double. Freshman catcher Pete Hogan was 2 for 2 with a double and an RBI and Mike Trachtenberg was 2 for 5 with an RBI.
Junior left fielder John Procopio was 2 for 3 for the Pride and Ryan Tatreau had an RBI double. Casey Federico went 1 for 3 with an RBI as well for the Pride.
Sophomore Michael Cole hurled seven innings to suffer the mound setback.
The Pride return to action on Saturday afternoon when it opens up conference play with a doubleheader against Wheaton. First pitch is slated for 12:00 pm.
