Women's Lacrosse Downs Salve Regina, 17-2

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. , March 23, 2004 – Springfield College junior forward Erin Looney (West Springfield, Mass.) scored three goals and added three assists to lead the Pride to a 17-2 win over Salve Regina for its first win of the season.

SC (1-1) outscored the Seahawks, 13-1, in the second half en route to interim head coach Rachel Tringali’s first career coaching win.

Pride senior forward Libby Beinert (Williston, Vt.) was credited with three goals and an assist, while junior back Erin Smith (Longmeadow, Mass.) tallied three goals.

SC opened a 2-0 lead with 13:04 remaining in the first half on goals by Smith and freshman forward Heidi Eidse (Bryn Athyn, Pa.). A goal by Salve Regina freshman midfield Cassandra Leone (North Andover, Mass.) made the score 2-1 with 5:48 remaining in the half.

Goals by Looney and Eidse closed the first half scoring with the Pride staked to a 4-1 lead.

SC opened the second half with 10 unanswered goals, including three by Beinert, to seal the victory.

Salve Regina sophomore goalie Brooke Bowley (Hollis, Maine) made 15 saves in goal for the Seahawks (0-2).

The Pride hosts Keene State on Thursday (March 25) at 4:00 p.m. on Benedum Field.
