Football Ranked #1 in Final New England Div. III Coaches Poll

SPRINGFIELD, Mass. – November 14, 2006 – The Springfield College football team has been ranked #1 in the final New England Division III Coaches poll, released this past Monday. SC was ranked #1 in the first six polls of 2006, fell to #2 for a week, then rebounded to finish #1 in the final two polls.

Overall, 9-1 Springfield College amassed 131 points (including seven first-place votes), while 2nd-place Williams (8-0) had 128 (including four first-place votes). Curry (11-0) remained third with 115 points (and the remaining three first-place votes).

In addition, SC was ranked 15th nationally by both d3football.com, and Don Hansen’s Football Gazette.

1) Springfield (8-1) 131 points (7 first-place votes)
2) Williams (8-0) 128 (4 first-place votes)
3) Curry (11-0) 115 (3 first-place votes)
4) Trinity (7-1) 101
5) Coast Guard (8-2) 80
6) Middlebury (6-2) 70
7) Bridgewater St. (7-2) 58
8) Amherst (5-3) 38
9) Maine Maritime (6-3) 31
