, Nov. 11, 2003 -- Springfield College is ranked No. 6 in this week's American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Poll, announced today.
This is the Pride’s highest national ranking ever. SC was ranked No. 7 in last week’s AFCA national poll. In the latest D3football.com national poll, the Pride is No. 7
SC, which is 9-0 overall and 6-0 in the Freedom Football Conference (FFC), wrapped up the FFC title and a berth in the NCAA Division III Tournament in Saturday’s 62-32 win over Norwich (Nov. 8). If the Pride wins this Saturday's regular-season finale at Union (N.Y.), it will be the first time in the 111-year history of the program that an SC team has gone 10-0. A win would also put the Pride in position for the No. 1 seed in the East Region (and a first-round bye) in the upcoming NCAA Division III Tournament – that’s also a first. The NCAA Division II Football Selection Show is Sun., Nov 16 at 1 p.m. on ESPNews.
SC, which currently leads Division III in rushing at 406.2 yards per-game, has won three of the of the last four national rushing titles. The Pride averages 45.7 points per game, which is third in Division III. Defensively, the Pride ranks in the top-30 nationally in three categories.
