Football Travels To Plymouth State In Search Of Second-Straight Win

Springfield College at Plymouth State University - Saturday, October 15, 2005 - Currier Memorial Field - 1:30 p.m.

The Series: Springfield holds a 7-3 lead ... SC has won three-straight, all via shutout, including 55-0 decision a year ago.

SC’s Last Game: The third straight one-point decision for Springfield ... this time in SC’s favor ... Western Conn. scored a TD and PAT in its first possession in overtime to take a 49-42 lead ... Chris Sharpe (see SC’s Offense) scored a TD and a two point conversion on SC’s first OT possession to give the Pride the 50-49 win.

Empire 8 Standings: 1. Ithaca (5-0, 3-0), Alfred (4-1, 3-0), Utica (4-1, 1-0); 4. St. John Fisher (5-1, 1-1); 5. Norwich (2-4, 0-2), Hartwick (2-2, 0-2); SC (1-4, 0-2).

Plymouth St. Scouting Report: The Panthers are 2-4 after beating Becker 31-8 last Saturday ... other scores: St. Anselms (14-40L), UMass-Dartmouth (14-7W), William Paterson (0-17L), Norwich (14-18L), Western Conn. 7-56L) ... Jr. HB Kyle Clark is the leading rusher with 312 yds and three TDs, all of which were scored Saturday against Becker ... SC’s Offense: Quite a week for sophomore QB Chris Sharpe (Derry, NH) and freshman FB Andrew Jackson (Pennsville, NJ) ... Sharpe moved from HB to QB this past week and quickly learned SC’s intricate triple-option system ... in his first game at QB, he was 5-9-0, 199 yds, and 2 TDs ... he also had 19 carries for 88 yds and scored SC’s 2-pt conversion in OT that gave the Pride their first win of the season ... the conversion followed a nine yard TD run to put SC in position to win ... however, Sharpe’s heroics may never had happened were it not for the power running of Jackson ... in his first career start, Jackson gained 223 yds on 35 carries with four touchdowns ... in addition to Sharpe and Jackson, Sr. C Dan Tanguay (S. Portland, ME) and Sr. T Jason Benguche (Housatonic, MA) were strong on the offensive line.

SC’s Defense: Sr. DE Nick Burdett (Needham, MA) had his best game of the year in terms of pressure on the QB ... So. CB Joe Harasymiak (Waldwick, NJ) had two interceptions and So. LB Andrew Madigan (New Britain, CT) had 14 tackles.

SC’s Special Teams: Fr. Nick Ford (Laconia, NH) returned three kickoffs for 90 yds.
