SPRINGFIELD, MASS. – November 6, 2006 - Springfield College’s Joe Harasymiak leads the Springfield College football team, and for that matter the entire Empire 8 Conference, with eight interceptions for 118 yards this season.
In fact, he is only two shy of tying the school single-season interception record of 10, held by Keith Sweeney back in 1992.
Joe is one of the nation’s leaders in interceptions. He was fourth in the nation in Division III with a 0.9 interceptions-per-game rate entering last Saturday’s game. Joe emerged from last Saturday’s action still averaging 0.9 picks per game.
As a starting defensive back, Harasymiak added to his interception total last weekend with a big pick against Hartwick College. He turned into a 54 yard return. Springfield won that contest, 44-20, and is now 8-1 overall this season, 4-1 in the Empire 8.
Harasymiak, who stands 5-11 and weighs 185, hails from Waldwick, N.J., and graduated from Waldwick High School.
On the Springfield College campus, Joe is a junior majoring in Physical Education.
Springfield’s next game is a conference game at Norwich University in Northfield, Vt. this Saturday (Nov. 11) at 1 pm. This will be the final regular-season game for Springfield College this season. If SC can win, it would clinch the Empire 8 title and an automatic NCAA post-season tournament berth.
