Springfield College In Super Bowl XXXIX
, Jan. 31, 2005 – Springfield College, the Birthplace of Basketball, will again be well represented in this year’s Super Bowl between the Philadelphia Eagles and the New England Patriots.
has spent the last six seasons as an assistant coach with the Philadelphia Eagles. Spagnuolo, who earned a bachelor’s degree in physical education in 1982 at Springfield College, currently serves as the Eagles’ linebackers coach. Spagnuolo, a native of Grafton, Mass., broke into the NFL as an intern under Charlie Casserly
, who was then the assistant general manger of the Washington Redskins, in 1983. Casserly, who earned his bachelor’s degree in education in 1971 and his master’s degree in guidance in 1973 from Springfield College, is senior vice president and general manager of the Houston Texans.
, the Patriots’ strength and conditioning coach for five seasons, earned a master’s degree in physical education in 1980. Woicik, who was raised in Westwood, Mass., began his strength and conditioning training at Springfield College in 1978. He served as a track coach and weight room coordinator from 1978 to 1980. Woicik, who is now in his 15th season in the NFL, has five Super Bowl rings, including three with the Dallas Cowboys.
