WORCESTER, Mass. – October 25, 2007 – The Springfield College men's swimming and diving team dropped its season opener at Holy Cross on Wednesday evening, 128-113.Andrew Blakesley (West Springfield, Mass.) led the way for the Pride with three first-place finishes. Blakesley touched first in the 1000 freestyle in a time of 10:24.98, the 100 freestyle in 49.04, and the 500 freestyle in 4:58.81. Justin Zook (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) also had a pair of victories in the meet as he finished first in the 200 freestyle in 1:51.40 and in the 200 backstroke, 2:08.08.
The Pride swept both the 1-meter and 3-meter diving events with Ben Casavant (Acton, Mass.) placing first in each. Casvant sscored a 241.11 on the 1-meter and a 239.70 on the 3-meter board. Matt Fitzgerald (Pelham, N.H.) finished second on the 1-meter (227.26) and third on the 3-meter (207.37) while Michael Osborne (Middletown, Conn.) recorded a second-place finish on the 3-meter (223.95) and a third-place finish on the 1-meter (226.72)
The Pride return to action on Saturday when it travels to take on Southern Connecticut State at 1:00 p.m.
