Ben Bristol Named To Verizon Academic All-District I Football Squad

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov 19, 2001-- Springfield College junior Ben Bristol has been named to the to the Verizon Academic All-District I Football team.

Bristol is eligible for the 2001 Verizon Academic All-America Football team, which will be announced in December.

Bristol, who hails from South Hadley, Mass., was one of 24 individuals named to the team. He is a sociology major with a cumulative grade-point average of 3.81. A two-year starter at right tackle, Bristol has been part of one of Division III's most productive rushing offenses. This season, he helped the Pride rush for 273.7 yards-per-game, which was seventh nationally. Last season, SC established an NCAA Division III single-season rushing record of 4,275 yards.

To be eligible for nomination a player must have at least a 3.2 cumulative grade-point average and have competed in at least 50 percent of their team's games. The Academic All-District I team is selected by the sports information directors of New England and New York-based institutions.

SC finished 4-5 overall and 3-3 in the Freedom Football Conference. In 2000, the Pride won the conference championship with a school-record 11-2 overall record and a 6-0 mark in the FFC. SC advanced to the East Region Final of the NCAA Championship and ranked 10th nationally.
