Preseason Football Accolades Continue For Switaj
, August 19, 2003 – Springfield College senior place-kicker Greg Switaj
has been named to the D3Football.com Preseason All-America First-Team, announced Monday.
, who is a native of Ridgewood, N.J
, was also selected to the 2003 Don Hansen’s Football Gazette Division III Preseason All-America Second Team. Last season, he was chosen as a D3football.com First-Team All-American. He is one of just 17 players in SC football history to earn first-team All-America honors.
This honor is just one of numerous awards that have been bestowed on Switaj, who enters the ’03 season ranked first among SC’s career leaders in points-after touchdown (102) and second in PAT percentage (83.6). Following an outstanding 2002 campaign in which he drilled 9-of-10 field goal attempts, he earned the Freedom Football Conference (FFC) Special Teams Player-of-the-Year Award. Switaj was also chosen to the Football Gazette Division III All-East Region First Team, the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Northeast Region All-Star team and the New England Football Writers All-Star First Team. An outstanding student who is majoring in athletic training, he was also an FFC Academic All-Conference choice.
Aside from converting 90 percent of his field goal attempts, including a career-long 45-yarder in an 18-15 win over No. 14 Western Connecticut (Oct. 11), Switaj also hit 40-of-44 point-after touchdown attempts and led the Pride in scoring with 67 points. HE led the FFC in field goals (0.9, tied for 27th nationally) and finished third in the FFC in scoring (6.7).
The Pride is the pre-season favorite to capture its fifth FFC title. SC (8-2 overall in '02), which ranked 20h in the final American Football Coaches Association Poll, won its fourth FFC championship in six seasons with a 6-0 conference record in 2002.
