Katie Hawke Named Head Women’s Lacrosse Coach

has been appointed head women’s lacrosse coach and assistant professor of physical education at Springfield College.
In making this announcement, director of athletics Dr. Cathie Schweitzer
said, “Katie is a welcome addition to our coaching staff and our faculty. She brings an impressive resume as a coach and educator to Springfield College.”
“I’m very excited about working with the student-athletes at Springfield College,” Hawke said. “The women’s lacrosse program has been very competitive. I am confident that we will continue to be successful, and I am looking forward to bringing the program to the next level.”
Hawke comes to Springfield College from Mount Holyoke College, where she served as a visiting lecturer in physical education, and assistant women’s lacrosse coach and head squash coach since 2001. Prior to joining the staff at Mount Holyoke, Hawke was the head women’s lacrosse and field hockey coach at Elms College in nearby Chicopee, Mass. She was voted the North Atlantic Conference (NAC) field hockey coach of the year in 2000.
Hawke brings a wide-range of teaching experience to Springfield College’s world-renowned physical education program. From 1995 to 1999, she was the head of girls’ physical education at the Queensbury School in Bradford, England. In 1999, Hawke came to the United States to pursue a master’s of science degree in exercise and sports studies and serve as a graduate teaching fellow at Smith College. She was awarded her master’s degree in May of 2001, and went on to hold visiting lecturer and coaching positions at Elms and Mount Holyoke. Hawke graduated with honors with a bachelor of education in physical education from Leeds Metropolitan University in England in May of 1992.
Hawke takes over an SC women’s lacrosse program that has reached the championship game of the New England Women’s and Men’s Athletic Conference (NEWMAC) Tournament the last four seasons. In 2002, the Pride captured the NEWMAC title and made its first appearance in the NCAA Division III Tournament in the program’s history. In 2004, the Pride finished with an 11-5 overall record but lost to Wheaton, 11-7, in the conference championship (April 25).

Kristen Mullady ‘00, enters her fifth season as the head women’s lacrosse coach at Springfield College. A former standout for Springfield’s women’s lacrosse team, Mullady led Springfield to back to back NEWMAC titles in 2012 and 2013. Read more
