Brown, Purdy, Harrington All Named Men's Lacrosse New England All-Stars

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., May 17, 2004 - Springfield College sophomore attackman Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.) was named a New England Intercollegiate Lacrosse Association (NEILA) First-Team All-Star while senior attackman Paul Purdy (Brewster, Mass.) and senior defenseman Sean Harrington (Suffern, N.Y.) earned second-team recognition as the teams were announced Monday.

Brown finished the season ranked 17th in Division III in points per game (4.50) and 12th in assists per game (2.50), leading the Pilgrim League in both categories. He recorded a season-high eight points twice with a three-goal, five-assist showing at WNEC (April 26) and six goals and two assists in a win at MIT (April 24). The only underclassman named a pre-season Division III All-American this spring, he garnered All-League honors as well as the Pilgrim East Division Player and Rookie of the Year last season.

Purdy was named the Pilgrim League Player of the Year after finishing third in the league in assists (2.0 apg) and fourth in the league in scoring (3.88 ppg). The team captain was named the Pilgrim League Player of the Week twice this season, including on April 26 after a seven-goal, four-assist performance against Western New England that clinched the top-seed for the Pilgrim League Tournament. He also became the eighth player in school history to score 200 points and finished seventh all-time in career scoring with 204.

Harrington, also a team captain, anchored a Pride defense has held its opponents to a 8.25 scoring average, which ranked third in the league. He finished 10th in the league with 52 ground balls, and picked up a season-high 13 in SC's win over Williams on March 31.

Both Purdy and Harrington were voted to play in the East/West Senior All-Star Game on Saturday, June 5th at Harvard with teams made up of the top Division I, II and III players in New England. The pair was also selected to play in the North/South Senior All-Star Game on Saturday, June 12 at Nazareth (N.Y.) College with the top Division III players in the east.

Springfield finished the regular season ranked No. 9 in Division III, earning its fourth NCAA Division III Tournament appearance and Pilgrim League Championship in the last five years. SC had its 12-game win streak broken with an 8-4 loss at Stevens Tech in a second-round game of the NCAA Tournament Saturday (May 16).
