Men's Lacrosse Drops 14-13 Overtime Decision To Bowdoin
, March. 26, 2003 – Despite five goals and an assist from freshman attackman Taylor Brown (Portsmouth, R.I.)
, the Springfield College men’s lacrosse team fell in overtime, 14-13, to Bowdoin College this evening on Benedum Field.
Freshman midfielder Evan Eaton (Amherst, N.H.)
scored the unassisted game-winning tally with :09 second remaining in the first overtime to lead the Polar Bears (2-3) to victory.
After Brown scored the first goal of the game at 12:18 in the first period, Bowdoin went on a 7-2 run, including two of senior attackman Kyle Courtiss’ (Duxbury, Mass.)
three goals to put Bowdoin up by four with 3:23 remaining in the second quarter. Springfield sophomore attackman Shawn Cofrin (Londonderry, N.H.)
answered with two of his three goals to cut the Polar Bear lead to 7-6, heading into halftime.
The Pride went on a 6-1 run including three goals by Brown, as SC took its largest lead of the game, 11-8, with 12:53 remaining in the fourth quarter. After both teams scored two goals apiece, Bowdoin scored three unanswered goals, including the game-tying tally by freshman midfielder Carl Klimpt (Baltimore, Md.)
with :43 second remaining in regulation, to send the game into overtime.
Junior attackman Paul Purdy (Brewster, N.Y.)
finished the game with two goals and four assists, while Cofrin also added an assist for Springfield (1-3). Courtiss was also credited with two assists for Bowdoin.
