Football Wins Season-Opener At Salve Regina, 38-7

NEWPORT, R.I., Sept. 6, 2003 - Springfield junior quarterback Ryan Sylvia (Marion, Mass.) rushed for 135 yards and four touchdowns, as the Pride beat Salve Regina, 38-7, in the season-opener this afternoon at Toppa Field.

SC (1-0), which rushed for 380 yards, improved its record to 20-2 when eclipsing the 300-yard mark since the 2000 season.

Springfield junior halfback Kevin Domurat (Forestdale, Mass.) rushed for 47 yards on six carries and caught a 45-yard touchdown pass, while junior fullback Tim Lutgens (Greenwich, N.Y.) added 76 yards on the ground.

SC held the Seahawks (0-1) to just 170 yards of total offense including only 93 yards rushing.

Sylvia opened the scoring with a 60-yard run with 10:04 left in the first quarter, then scored on an 11-yard rush with 13:50 left in the second. Four-and-a-half-minutes later, junior quarterback Mike Judge (Chatham, N.J.) hit Domurat with a 45-yard bomb to make it 21-0. In the third quarter, Sylvia punched in his third TD, scoring from the one-yard line with 12:27 remaining, then raced 20 yards for his fourth score with 4:45 left in the game.
