SPRINGFIELD, Mass., October 3, 2005- Springfield College sophomore halfback Chris Sharpe (Derry, N.H.) has been named this week’s Empire 8 Conference Football Co-Offensive Player of the Week. Sharpe shares this week’s honor with Utica College junior quarterback Nick Martin.
Sharpe and Martin are additionally honored as Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northwest Co-Offensive Players of the Week.
Sharpe, a graduate of Pinkerton Academy, rushed for a career-best 94 yards on just five carries and scored three touchdowns in the Pride’s Empire 8 Conference match-up with Utica College this past Saturday, October 1, in Utica, N.Y. Sharpe finished with a total of 158 offensive yards, touching the ball just six times in the game.
The sophomore averaged 18.8 yards-per-carry on the ground, including a 77-yard touchdown run. He also received a 64-yard touchdown pass from senior quarterback Damian Gunningsmith (Trumansburg, N.Y.). Sharpe's touchdown reception and 77-yard rush are both season-bests for the Pride.
