Curtis Schmidt Earns FFC and ECAC Honors

SPRINGFIELD, Mass., Nov. 19, 2003 – Springfield College junior linebacker Curtis Schmidt has been named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Division III Northeast and the Freedom Football Conference (FFC) Defensive Player of the Week.

Schmidt, who is from Whitesboro, N.Y., played a starring role in the Pride’s 21-18 win at Union on Saturday. With Union driving towards a game-winning score, he forced a fumble on the Springfield 10-yard line that the Pride recovered with 30 seconds left in the game to secure the win and a school-record 10-0 season. Schmidt also recovered a fumble and raced 23 yards for SC’s first touchdown of the game in the second quarter. His totals on the day also included ten tackles.

Schmidt’s season totals include 24 tackles and three sacks.
