Fletcher Named FFC's Top Defensive Player

is the Freedom Football Conference’s (FFC) Defensive Player of the Week.
, a native of Orwell, Vt.
, and a graduate of Fairhaven Union High
, was a star in the seventh-ranked Pride’s 56-10 FFC win over WPI on Saturday (Oct. 25). The 2002 All-FFC First-Team selection had a game-high 11 tackles (seven solo), and was in on his first three career sacks (15 yards for loss) against the Engineers. SC forced five turnovers in the game, and took a 32-point lead (35-3) into the locker room at halftime after allowing just 99 yards of total offense in the first half.
For the season, Fletcher leads the team in tackles with 44 (25 solo).
Springfield is 8-0 overall and 5-0 in the Freedom Football Conference. The Pride entered Saturday's game ranked No. 7 in the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Poll, the highest national ranking in school history, and No. 1 in the East in the latest NCAA Division III regional poll and the ECAC Lambert Division III poll.
The Pride hosts Norwich on Sat., Nov. 8 at 12 p.m. A win would tie the school record for best start at 9-0, and would also clinch its fifth FFC title and the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament.
